The Power of Positive Thinking

“If you knew how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.”― Peace Pilgrim"

You have probably heard these words many times, “you should have a positive attitude…”. Have you ever wondered what is the meaning of these words? OR why this positive attitude matters? In this post, I would like to offer a few explanations about the core meaning of these words.

Positive attitude is a state of your own mind that envisions and expects favorable results. Yes, it sounds useful on the surface but in some situation in our life, we prefer to dismiss it. Many studies has shown that it has an amazing impact on your life and health. It can reduce the stress and make every moment worth experiencing. Surely, many people who are reading this article, believes in Positive Thinking. That's why they are here. We all want to apply this theory in our life but the question what can be done ,when life throws us out of the parachute?

Play along with me for a moment.

Let's assume if you'r walking through the forest and suddenly a tiger steps onto the path ahead of you. When this happens, your brain triggers a negative emotion in this case, Fear.

Researchers have proofs that negative emotions program your brain to do a specific action. So,when that tiger crosses your path, you only run. The rest of the world doesn't matter. You are focused entirely on the tiger. In other words, negative emotions narrow your mind. At that same time, you might have the option to climb a tree, or grab a stick or stone -- but your brain ignores all of those options because they seem irrelevant when a tiger is standing in front of you and more of negative thoughts override your mind because of fear.

Whereas, a person with a positive mind, does not dwell on the problems and difficulties , and does not let negative thoughts dictate his or her life. I believe in Positive Thinking indeed and that's why I have touched this topic here. Please give yourself permission to smile and enjoy the benefits of positive emotion. The benefits of positive thinking are vast and it always help you to attract good things in your life also. I am sharing few convenient tricks to help you remain positive in every aspect of your life.

1) Strengthen your memory with positive words- Increase your positivity just by memorizing lists of positive words. Because when you force your brain to use positive words frequently, you make these words more accessible, connected, and easily activated in your brain. Try to use these words in your daily life & replace them with the negative words or sentence. Example: Yes, Fair,Absolutely, Accepted, Applicable, Good, Super, Exactly etc.

2) Pay attention to the positive Surrounding- Are you one who notices when someone cuts you off in traffic or your food missed on Salt ? That means your brain is focusing on the negative. As soon as, you feel like this, immediately change the gear of your thinking It can be really challenging to undo this training. So instead, focusing on problem, train your brain to be think better on the positive. When you start routinely on this positive aspects than your mind , it automatically stop working on other side.

3) Practice Gratitude- I admit that there will be an infinite number of things to be angry, sad, anxious about. But the truth is there are also an infinite number of things to feel passionate, happy, and excited about. It's we, who to decide which we want to focus on. One way to train your mind to focus on the positive is to practice gratitude. We can always express thankfulness to the people, things, and experiences we have. Think for a moment, that even a single time when your friends, colleagues, parents have cared about you and you have felt this gratitude. In return, allow yourself to be more generous and kind to them. When we are grateful for the little things in lives, we see more satisfaction and good relationships in our lives.

4) Savor the good moments- Often we let the good moments pass, without actually celebrating them. Maybe your friend gives you a small gift or a colleague makes you laugh. Have you stop noticing and appreciating these small pleasures that life has to offer? If not, then you could benefit from savoring. It means holding onto a good thoughts and emotions we have. You can savor by holding on to the emotions which making you feel in positive moments. Or you can savor by thinking about positive experiences from long ago. Savoring is a great way to develop a long-lasting stream of positive thoughts and emotions.

5) Positive emotions with social resources- Experiencing positive emotions can build our psychological and intellectual memory. With the help of social resources, we can allow us to enjoy more benefits and experiences which we can infuse into our lives with small bursts of positive emotion. So, the another way is to watch positive videos, inspirational reads and quotes. It can generate a quick boost of positive emotions and can help fuel an upward spiral of positive emotions.

6) Stop minimizing your successes- We all have a bad habit of downplaying our successes and not fully appreciating our wins. For example, We may say, “I have only got Note -2 but I wanted to have Note-1 in my studies." So, I didn’t increase my happiness as much I wanted to, and fail to recognize the effort that I had put in. These phrases minimize your small successes instead of celebrating them. Don't forget to celebrate the small wins, because they are the bridge of your Goal somewhere.

7) Meditation,Writing & Self-Love- Certain researches revealed, that the people who meditate daily display more positive emotions that those who do not. Regular meditation increases mindfulness, purpose in life, social support, and decreased illness symptoms which leads to positive emotions.
Also try to write daily 3 positive experiences or things about you for three consecutive days. It brings you certainly positive vibes and better mood levels.

Last, but not least, on my suggestion list is your "Me-Time". Please schedule a date with your own self. We schedule meetings, conference calls, weekly events, and other responsibilities into our daily calendars... why not schedule a "Me-time"? When was the last time you blocked out for an hour for you in your calendar just to explore or rejoice? You can't tell me that being happy is less important than your Wednesday meeting, or house-hold. We act at many time with negative emotions, because we suppress ourselves to enjoy us. Be kind to yourself.

There is always a room for improvement, Never think that you’re a complete failure, just because you’re not a complete success in all the ways you hoped for. Though, adopting a positive thinking does not mean that everything will always move smoothly and there will be no bumps on the road. But, it ensures that any setback you might encounter will not impact on your mind & will not stop you to move forward .
We win some, We lose some & that's how we balance our life. Remember, You are the conductor of your own attitude . Be Positive!
