What’s in Your Cup? As an entrepreneur, I get many opportunities to encounter a diverse array of people, each with unique perspectives, experiences, and reactions to the actions of others. People often ask me why I don’t respond to unpleasant actions in the same way often. know that these individuals are shaped by their experiences and the actions of others, and they often need healing from their hurt. Hurting them further won’t help anyone. I’ve learned this from a wonderful analogy that carries an important lesson, which I’d like to share. Imagine you're holding a cup of coffee. Someone bumps into you, causing you to spill the coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? "Because someone bumped into me!" you might say. But that's not entirely true. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. If there had been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.
