A Millionaire Mindset - The Seven Expensive Habits

A Millionaire Mindset: It Starts Before the Money

Maybe you’ve had this moment: you’re scrolling on your phone, you see yet another “self-made millionaire” story, and a small voice in your head whispers, “Why not me?”

You’re not lazy. You work hard. But something still feels… stuck. That “something” is usually not your job, not your degree, not your background. It’s your mindset—the way you think about money, time, and yourself.

A Millionaire Mindset: It Starts Before the Money

1. Play of the Long Game

Millionaires think in years and decades, not days and weeks. Most people ask: “What can I get right now?” Millionaire mindset asks: “What can I build that will keep paying me later?”

That’s why they:

  • Prefer assets over shiny toys (Investments, skills, Businesses over random gadgets or Brand trands)

  • Are you okay with being “underestimated” today to be free tomorrow

  • Reinvest profits instead of increasing lifestyle too fast

Before buying something, ask: “Will this still matter or give me value one year from now?” If not, think twice.

2. Money as a Tool, Not a Trophy

For many people, money is emotional: fear, guilt, ego, or status. Millionaire mindset is more practical:

Money is a tool for buying back time, creating freedom, and solving problems.

So instead of:

  • “I want money so people respect me.”

It’s more like:

  • “I want money so I can choose how I live, work, and spend my time.”

This shift changes how you earn, save, and spend. You stop chasing the approval of others and start building a life that makes you happy.

3. Focus on Value, Not Hours

Most people are paid for their time. The millionaire mindset aims to be paid for value.

Time-based thinking: “If I work more hours, I earn more.”

Value-based thinking: “If I solve bigger problems, I earn more.”

That’s why millionaires love:

  • Businesses and side hustles

  • Investments (stocks, real estate, digital products, etc.)

  • Skills that scale (coding, sales, marketing, leadership, content, systems)

Ask yourself: What skill could I develop that lets me help 100 or 1,000 people at once—not just one?

4. Take Radical Responsibility

Excuses are expensive. Millionaire mindset doesn’t mean blaming yourself for everything, but it does mean owning your situation:

  • “I didn’t learn about money early.” → Okay, but I can start now

  • “My job doesn’t pay enough.” → Okay, how can I raise my value or create a second income?

They don’t wait for the perfect government, perfect boss, or perfect timing. They start with what they have, where they are.

5. Protect Their Attention

Your attention is your most valuable currency. They’re not “anti-fun”—they’re just selective. Millionaire mindset knows that:

  • Every hour scrolling is an hour not building

  • Every negative conversation drains mental energy

  • Every distraction delays freedom

You’ll notice they:

  • Spend more time learning than complaining

  • Choose friends who talk about ideas and opportunities

  • Create boundaries around their focus time

Simple rule: Give your best attention to things that give you a future return.

6. Learning Like a Daily Habit

Behind almost every millionaire is an embarrassing first attempt: first business, first deal, first “failure.”

The difference? They kept going. Millionaire mindset:

  • Reads, listens, observes

  • Asks questions instead of pretending to know

  • Learns from mistakes instead of hiding them

They see every setback as “paid tuition” for real-world education. Try this tiny habit:

  • 20 minutes a day on money, business, or personal growth content

  • 20 minutes a week reviewing your finances or plans

Small, consistent learning compounds like interest.

7. Upgrade Identity, Not Just Income

If you still see yourself as “bad with money,” “just average,” or “not entrepreneurial,” your actions will quietly match that story. Millionaires rewrite that story. They start thinking:

  • “I am someone who can learn this.”

  • “I can handle more responsibility and more income.”

  • “I deserve a life where I’m not constantly stressed about money.”

The mindset change usually comes before the bank balance change.

Start Today For Yourself:

You don’t need a business degree, rich parents, or a magical idea. You can start building a millionaire mindset today by doing just a few things differently:

  1. Track your money – Even a simple note of what comes in and goes out. Awareness = control.

  2. Invest in a skill – One skill that can increase your earning power this year.

  3. Create one tiny income stream – It could be freelancing, selling a digital product, tutoring, or reselling. Small is fine.

  4. Protect 1 hour a day – For learning, building, or planning your future—not reacting to everyone else’s.

The millionaire mindset is not about greed. It’s about freedom, options, and living life on purpose.

The question isn’t: “Will I ever be a millionaire?”A better question is: “Am I thinking and acting like the kind of person who could become one?”

Start there. The rest follows.

Making the Leap: Switching from Job to Business in Germany

Making the Leap:  Switching from Job to Business in Germany Making the leap from a stable job to running your own business in Germany is exciting — and a little daunting. Beyond the new freedom and responsibility, there are practical, legal, and financial changes that can surprise even the most prepared founders.  A few years ago, I made the big leap — I left my full-time job and started my own business in Germany.  Since then, I’ve not only learned a lot through my own journey but have also had the privilege of supporting many individuals as they launched their own startups. One thing I always tell my clients is this: discipline is the main thing that drives success .  Yes, strategy, networking, and creativity matter — but without consistent daily effort, it’s easy to get distracted or overwhelmed. Discipline keeps you moving forward, even when things are uncertain or slow. In my experience, the entrepreneurs who stick to their routines, prioritize their goals, a...

From Paying Rent to Building Roots: The Erlangen Family Dream

Why Families in Erlangen Should Buy a Home Instead of Paying High  As I closed the deal on another house, I came across a fascinating client journey. This client had been living in Erlangen for the past 13 years and finally decided it was time to buy a property. His experiences, struggles, and learnings inspired me to share why owning a piece of the place you’ve called home for years can be so meaningful. PC: Kathi If you’ve ever spent a sunny afternoon strolling through the Schlossgarten , enjoyed ice cream by the Regnitz , or watched your kids play under the chestnut trees of Bürgermeistersteg , you know — Erlangen isn’t just a city, it’s a feeling. It’s that special mix of Bavarian charm and modern innovation that makes people fall in love and want to stay forever . But for many families, rising rents make that dream harder to hold onto. So instead of pouring more money into rent, maybe it’s time to think differently — to build something lasting right here in the city you alr...

House Remodeling: No bliss in Ignorance

Remodeling: No bliss in Ignorance  So, you've found your dream property in Germany and are ready to take the next steps to bring your vision to life—exciting times ahead! First of all, Congratulations! Finalizing a property purchase in Germany is no small feat. Anyone who has gone through the process can certainly relate—the tight appointment schedules, endless questions about the property, language barriers, and navigating the complex buying process, including reading through countless contracts and insurance policies, can be overwhelming. From what I’ve seen and heard, the real journey doesn’t start with buying the property—it begins the moment you have the keys in your hands. Yes, I’m talking about transforming a pre-owned property into a space that truly reflects your vision and personality. A wise person once said that we learn more from our mistakes than from our victories. This couldn’t be more true when it comes to renovations in Germany. Relying solely on others' st...
